As you walk through the city and along Broad Street, the majority of the signs begin with the word NO. No stopping, no standing, no soliciting, no parking, no dogs, no shirt, no service, no trespassing, no loitering and I always think to myself, No Breathing, No Living, No Laughing. No life. A world devoid of color.

This image was ironic because the post appears as if it is splitting in two and the sticker seems to be holding it together as if it were a band aid intent on healing. Yet, the message of the sticker and the experience of 9/11 tore our country in two politically.

The remainder of an old sticker once removed left the image similar to that of a dinosaur head behind. It seemed amusing that an extinct species seemed to be recycling to save the earth. Perhaps, he was trying to warn us?

Edit Pictures

I tried to keep my pictures as natural to myself as possible, I added the logo to my blog on all the pictures. I stylized the pictures with different effects. I wanted to compare my logo to other logos that I respect with the Hundreds clothing logo backwards with switched colors on their logo, I tried to keep my logo relevant within each picture.

As I worked on this picture I was kinda lost on what I should do, and I got into a in depth conversation about Troy A. Davis and the mixed dialogue during the conversation made me create the piece you see in front of you. I tried to convey a few peoples point of view within the picture. I enjoyed doing this picture coming up with each part to try in represent this mans life that was lost on September 21st 2011.

Triad of Random

I apologize for the crude quality of the pictures but my PhotoShop wouldn't uplaod them to Blogger so I had to take pictures of them with my camera phone straight off my laptop. In any case, here they are! I was admittedly hungry when I did this and I guess my minds eye saw no other potential in the letters other than this.

Originally reading as, "We ship to prisons" it seemed fitting to right this on a wall in a red lined neighborhood. It only felt right because you know no one cares about most of the troubled youth in prisons who come out of these neighborhoods.

This sign actually reads as, "Besty Ross" so I thought I would do the City a favor and fix it for them.

Broad Street Changes - Dos

For this assignment, I replaced the main text with text from cards in Community Chess, and Chance, in Parker Brothers' Monopoly. They seem to fit the dreary, and the indescript nature of Tasker and Broad. There isn't much life around, and it is slowly becoming more and more dilapidated.

From Foundation.org to "You are assessed for street repairs - $40 per house, $115 per hotel"

From "No Dumping - $400 Fine" to "Advance to Go - Collect $200.00" AND Philadelphia Gas Works to GO.
The Postal Service is changed to "Do Not Pass Go, Do Not Collect $200"

Jake's Photoshopped Pics

I photoshopped this building to make i look more dark.

I chose to colorize this picture green and throw an artistic filter on it.SEIZE THE FUTURE1

I added a ripple effect, inverted the original pic and changed the color around.donot

Cleaner and Brighter

I heightened the saturation and brightened the hue of the letters on this sign so that they would appear less faded.
For this assignment, I was a little unsure as to what direction I should go in when editing my pictures. I attempted to sort of give my pictures a look of renewal, editing, retouching and brightening each of the signs.

Originally, the paint on this lamp post was chipped and covered in dirt and markings so I retouched the whole thing.

I complained so much about this sign that I thought I had to fix it. I feel better now.
I didn't want to do something too extreme or exaggerated because I wanted to keep them looking real. Imagine a Philadelphia where the signs are clean and legible and have all of their letters!

I messed around with this sign a couple of times. I really wanted to explore and experiment with Photoshop. The first I wanted to make it look like a painting. The second I wanted the trashcans to really stick out against the background and I made the 1432 broad sign brighter. The last sign, I worked on first I wanted to eliminate the trash look but also give it a choppy look like the 1432 sign.

bloodcenterI wanted to turn the picture from day to night to give it a more creepy feeling. I wanted to make the blood sign neon as if it is a commercial retail building. I gave some light to the window to give it more of a night feel. Also I removed the donor word from the sign.

Temple-After

Having the sign against black and white makes it appear more epic.

PhotoShopped Broad St. by Michael Lloyd

This first image I PhotoShopped is of the front of 1700 North Broad, within Temple campus itself. I figured that since the sign was less than ten feet from the building that it was pointing towards, that I could clarify pretty much what the sign is trying to say.

The second which I PhotoShopped is of the Freedom Theatre sign. Since the red and white building in the background is the actual Freedom Theatre, I modified the sign to more accurately reflect on the fact that the building in the foreground is Edwin Forrest's pad, not the location of the Freedom Theatre.

This final PhotoShopping venture is of the "Abbott Bvilding", which is now home to a pizza establishment. I figured that the building itself was obviously not originally built to be a pizza place, so I changed the "ABBOTT BVILDING" into a sign reading "ALL IN VANITY", because it seemed to fit with the idea of a pizza parlour staking out inside a masonry building.

Alternate Broad Street Signs

For my bed bugs picture in my last post I commented on how I found it funny that it just said "kills bed bugs" and didn't say who or what killed bed bugs. So i decided to put in "we" take out the s in kills and fill it with more pink graffiti

I didn't know what to change on this sign so I decided to rearrange the letters and instead of it said "pool room upstairs" I made it "mr. room upstairs"

For Eunique Experience beauty salon, in my last blog I commented on how I found it funny that unique was spelled wrong. So I photoshopped the E out and fixed up the letters throughout the rest of the sign to make it look better.

Ave. of the Arts

The section of Broad Street where I chose to take my pictures was the Avenue of the Arts section, running from city hall down to South Street. This section, which contains many of the city’s major theaters, is in the mindset of attracting tourists and is kept in much better shape than other sections of the street.

This photo is of the front entrance of the Kimmel Center. I chose it because of this building’s prominence on the Avenue of the Arts. The Kimmel center is one of the more noticeable buildings on the street, topped with a glass atrium that runs the length of the entire block.

This is of one of the signs out in front of the Wilma Theater, displaying their upcoming performances. I chose this because the Wilma is also one of the more notable theaters in this area.

This picture shows one of the many “Walk! Philadelphia” signs in the area, and represents the aim this section of Broad Street has towards attracting tourism.'

This historic landmark plaque on the Academy of Music shows the deep history of some of the buildings on this section of Broad.

This parking garage was very aggressive in their advertising, and this picture is of one of the many signs they had on display. I figured this also represented the heavy tourism traffic in the area.

North Broad St. Signs

I took a picture of this sign that was located in a convenience store because it states thank-you for shopping there and supporting local community retailers but they picked the creapiest guy to be on the sign. Found it funny they would have someone sketchy looking thank their customers for coming in.

I liked this sign because it was placed outside of a hardware/convenience store and it just had a sign that says kills bed bugs with an arrow pointing to the sign and not the store. No name of what will kill the bed bugs just pictures of bed bugs. I found it different and liked it. I guess good advertising for people who have bed bugs and see the sign

I liked this sign because Eunique is very obviously spelled wrong. Maybe the shop owners name is Eunice or something and so then it could be considered clever or they just sounded it out and thought this looked right. Either way I liked it...

This was an interesting sign because it was placed outside of a building with no other signs and no windows so you could not see what the downstairs even was, and there was just
an open door with a narrow hallway leading upstairs. Seemed kinda shady and so as you could guess I didn't walk upstairs

I took a photo of this posting because I
found it pretty comical that it is advertising free human hair. I have never had a weave so I don't know if this is an awesome deal but I found it pretty funny and strange when I saw it on the pole.

The stuff in my sack

So here are the two main items, my cell phone and wallet, that I grab first in the morning. The cell is used basically for its purpose, which is to contact people I know to hang out or film a skit or two. Since it is a "smartphone" i'm always linked to my email and other websites that I use frequently. This very important especially when I have or get offered to do a film job. The phones makes it easier to stay in touch with the client because I don't have to run to the computer every five minutes to keep them posted on progress. The wallet is also self explanatory. It carries my id's, money, and ect. Without this i'm pretty much screwed if I go out and have to pay to eat.

The next pair of items I carry with me are these notebooks, one of which is for school and the three remaining are for personal use. As I have said in a previous class, I always carry these books around just in case i'm out and suddenly I get a good I idea that I could possible film. Seeing as how I wish to be a screen writer there always has to be something that i can write on. Ultimately my phone has a writing program, but its not fast enough for me to write things out in some detail. Of course I carry the pens to tag along with the books. If i didn't keep a pen there would be no point to carry the books. Also they come in handy if I just so happen to see hot tamale (good looking female) walking down the street and I try to get her number. Then again I could just use my phone. The other items that I carry are my house keys, car keys, flip cam, headphones, bandaids, and hard drive.

I think the ideas that I have are pretty basic for me as a film student. They show that i'm a person thats prepared to do what needs to be done, at least I think they do. My creative side can always be expressed and ready to be used at any given moment. The picture that is below shows a bit of my goofy/weird side. Im more of a fun person then serious, but when the time calls for it my serious side is not to be taken lightly. Besides that get to know me i'm a cool guy.

Signs and such- Cory Williams

This really caught my eye because this brand of t.v hasn't been in production in years. I remember have one of these little t.v's when i was younger, and i would play with the knobs all the time. Eventually i would play my playstation on it, but of course the t.v crapped out on me after some time since it was so old.

This stood out because for some reasons a few years ago the city felt the need to put this up to indicate the area. Its already bad
enough i live there now everybody else is going to know the name of that lame area. It wouldn't be so bad if people actually came out their houses. Then again this area is a little better then west oak lane.

This caught my car eye while i was driving because it was called exodus. In the bible there is a book called exodus, but someone took the name and made it a title of a bar, something I wouldn't really agree with. A person can tell that this sign had to be made in the late 70's or early 80's simply from the
design.

Anytime I come home taking board street I look
at this sign and it never fails. The reason be hide this is because I attend this school to get my barbers license right after high school. If i would have never gone there I would be done college already, but it did give me a way to make some tax free money.
This just stood out because it was dumb to me. Who bright idea was it to put a "we buy houses" sign above a bus route sign. Only people that would be able to see this are the ones across the street and from that distance its just a yellow square that can't be read. To the guy that put up this sign great idea, no really it's great. The sarcasm was all the way intended.
