The Contents of My Bag

I look at the contents of my bag and I further look at the photo that I have taken to display them. It is painfully obvious that I have the need to be in control. I have the need to keep lists and manage my life and all that goes with it, closely. To construct straight lines and organized clusterings of objects that are easy on the eye. My days and weeks are chaos. It is a chaos I strangely enjoy and am always attempting to harness. This is our culture. It never stops. We never stop. We are always absorbing, giving, and taking from the environment around us. I did not include my Ipod, nor my phone. I expect that these are a given in the majority of our bags or nestled in our pockets.

My wallet contains my ID. For school, for the government, my paltry amount of cash that I keep in case I really need something that I haven't planned for. My little zippy bag contains band aides, tokens for the train, multiple pens in case one runs out, and usually my flash drive, chap stick, and gum. I like to keep things neat. In little compartments where things are easy to find and rarely get lost. My flash drive contains homework and papers, completed and still in need of completion. It allows me to carry my schooling with me at all times. My hand sanitizer that doubles as a hand moisturizer. Great for cold weather and dry skin. Kills germs and makes your hands soft! And it smells like lemons. Multitasking is a beautiful thing. My gum is kept for the moments that I can't find time to eat. It wakes me up when I am about to succumb to exhaustion in an especially boring scenario.

My planner, I write every assignment, every bill, every mundane task that I shouldn't forget here. I love lists. I love drawing lines and scribbling away a completed task from my planner. One less thing to do. One less worry. My chap stick keeps me company when I get anxious and need to fidget. It is simple and easy. It is a part of my appearance that requires no effort or thought. It taste like cherries:)

All of these items give me a sense of security, a handle on my world. All of these items allow me to keep moving. With them, I never feel unprepared. I can move from place to place with confidence. If I need to turn off for a moment, I turn on my Ipod, or reach for my chap stick. All of these items keep me mobile and in touch with the multiple worlds we move through on a daily basis.
