Blog 3. Alternate Signs

New meets old seems to be the trend in my generation. Wearing some gaudy bright clothes becomes have become "retro" and anything that's too weird for the parents to approve has become "new". That's the thoughts that were going through my head when I decided to put a neon sign on this old hotel logo. It's not something one would see often, and it also merges the old and the new in a very pleasant-to-the eye kind of way.

I thought the visual of actual gold might bring more class into the cheap scam-looking sign. Not sure if it does. Either way, you have to go underground. :) A constant reminder of the time when nothing is of true value, and everything is exchangeable for cash.

At first I thought cleaning up the words in this sign would soothe the curiousity. The top word is beyond the repair though. So highlighting something forgotten was the right choice. This sign reflects all those factories and venues that are being forgotten in the city, where one block over trees are being cut to put up another building. Nobody believes in a true-recycling. It always seems easier to start somewhere new instead of fixing or renovating something.

Being in Temple as an Arts major, this sign reflects my status as a student well. I love this shot, and how it has education, art, architecture, history, and nature in it. It's a good motivational/inspirational sign.
